If you are new to my blog, and aren’t familiar with the All Star of the Month competition, here is a brief summary:
Every month, traders in the membership site (from around the world) compete for the coveted All Star of the Month award by sending in their trades and profit/loss percentages.
The most profitable trader wins.
In December, as usual, the competition was intense.
I would like to take a moment and congratulate Bill Smith for his accomplishments last month, and for winning the All Star of the Month award for December!
Here is his story:
Everyone must ask themseleves, “how am I going to provide a decent income after I retire?” That begs the question, “What do I do to prepare?”
What are my retirement goals?
I thought I had all those questions firmly in hand with well laid plans, and I maxed out my 401K plan. Over the last 10 plus years, I saved a nest egg so that I would have the income I need to maintain my current lifestyle after I retired.
Gaining investment knowledge by listening to financial radio talk show “gurus”, and reading the books they recommend was the path to success I followed for many years.
It seemed easy enough to let my money sit in mutual funds year after year and grow as the Market did over the past two decades.
When IÂ finally retired early, I found the golden path of buy and hold was not going to meet my financial objective, so I looked for alternate ways to invest.
I am now retired, and have raised three grown daughters that have given me 7 grand children.
So the tough years were behind me, so I thought. I became passionate about learning how to invest like the pro’s, and it seemed like the way to go to make my life comfortable.
Options trading seemed to be a good course of action for me as it seemed to be faster growth and not a lot of risk using the covered call method. It worked well for a few months.
The primary issue with covered calls is that I had to purchase stocks.
As the market began to deteriorate at the end of 2007, managing all these stocks became a full time job.
Finally, the value of my stocks deteriorated about 60% in late 2008 and the beginning of 2009, leaving me with some serious decisions on how I was going to generate income to live on for the rest of my life.
I eventually heard about vertical credit spreads. Shortly after learning about them, I heard about Jeffrey Ziegler.
I decided to try Jeff’s program for myself. Jeff seemed to be an honest, down to earth, type of guy that wanted to teach his methods that he accumulated over the course of his investment life.
It all sounded good, maybe even too good to be true.
I signed up and soon received the materials.
Having been familiar with options, the home study course went very smoothly and I began to paper trade.
Very soon I was investing real cash and following Jeff’s prescribed tools.
I owe a lot to Jeff, and will be forever grateful. Credit spreads have been really fun these last several months and I look forward to placing trades in this market, or ANY market condition.
I plan to share options trading with my kids and grand kids, so eventually they can be successful and have a great deal of money when time comes for them to retire.
Now my wife and I can travel when and where we want to, and all that is needed is my laptop wherever we go – the world is ours.
JAZ: Bill, I love your story, and talk about the ultimate comeback!
Before you started trading, you faced some significant financial challenges. Most people would have just given up!
I am really impressed that you didn’t, you took action, and seized an opportunity that was before you… and the outcome has been outstanding!
You have been consistently profitable over several months, and I am thrilled that you have taken the top spot this month.
I get so excited when the power of this strategy starts to “click”. You were one of many who “thought the though years were behind” them, only to be burned by the economic crash.
But now, you can look forward to a bright future and retirement… knowing that your finances are no longer bound to every whim and fancy of the Market. I
sincerely hope you and your wife enjoy your travels without worry about where the money will come from!
Congratulations!
