Every month traders from my membership site compete for the coveted All Star of the Month award.
May was no different…
May’s All Star of the month is Roy Rummel, and his wife Corrine Bell-Rummel from Tennessee.
Here is what they had to say:
Have you ever felt like you were on springs jumping out of the box?
That picture captures our launch to become options traders.
The flight from Knoxville to Phoenix in March 2008 was easy enough. We arrived with laptops in tow and a reasonable measure of comfort. We believed that zilch experience with the stock market would be no barrier. We would enjoy at least marginal success as options traders. After Jeff’s weekend seminar, we expected to need a couple of months of practice on paper accounts and then be up and running. Corinne says she’s not felt more naive since adolescence.
Before getting judgmental, please consider that we did have some basis for confidence in taking such a leap. We’d followed other dreams to mastery. With a history of academic success, we each had completed doctoral degrees and enjoyed long careers as psychologists. Corinne worked for many years both as a family and child therapist in Knoxville, TN. Much of her career involved work with abused children, with court appointed assessments of children and parents related to custody battles, and as an expert witness in legal custody battles. Roy spent most of his career in Dayton, Ohio, with a major emphasis on work with trauma victims and post-traumatic stress.
We went home from Jeff’s seminar, not proud but scared. We struggled. We listened to the materials on Jeff’s DVD’s over and over. As senior psychologists who had worked with many “learning disabled” folks, we finally knew what it felt like to be on the other side. Some of what seems rather simple now seemed so horribly complex then. We worked with paper accounts, sometimes separately, sometimes together. Some months we made some nice profits. Some times we didn’t. Some times it was hard to figure out the questions we needed to ask.
Throughout the past year as we continued in training with Jeff, Corinne would refer to us as the “special ed” class. Actually, our heads were swimming those first couple days in Jeff’s seminar with bear calls, bull puts, confirmations, and watching Jeff putting on trades in lightening speed and then say, “The dishes are done, it’s that easy.” In the webinars at home, Roy was sometimes frustrated with Corinne’s inattentiveness when she buried her face in her hands, muttering her own choice words. These were the times that Corinne felt like a grade school kid with her head on her desk, balking and refusing to mind the teacher.
But we stayed with the program.
Finally, where there was muddle, now generally there is clarity. We have been with Jeff’s weekly coaching program since that March weekend in 2008. We now enjoy the trading and especially appreciate Jeff’s hard learned technical knowledge shared through his teachings. Being trained as technical traders gives us confidence… taking the guess work out of our trading decisions.
For two months now, we’ve traded real money. With all our hard work and Jeff’s patience, it’s more than gratifying to have control of our money and see our investments grow. This is especially timely after having our investments hacked away through the stock market crunch.
The big surprise was how fast the learning curve increased when we bit the bullet and began trading cash vs. paper. With our financial stakes on the line, somehow our focus sharpened. We learned faster.
We learned everything we know about options trading from Jeff, with exception of the tremendous support received from our colleagues in training. Witnessing their success kept us motivated.
As professional colleagues, we met six years ago in San Diego at a therapist’s training seminar. Roy was a widower of several years and Corinne was divorced. They have since married and have enjoyed a prolonged honeymoon. Roy has three adult daughters and 11 grandchildren; Corinne has an adult son and daughter and three grandchildren.
Trading options has a fun feel about it, like playing games. We hope soon to be free from the demanding office schedules we have kept for years, to do our trading on the road-that is, traveling any place we want to go in the world with our computers while our profits move steadily upwards. We are also involved with internet marketing and writing a handbook of guidelines for divorced parents. Besides traveling and grand parenting, we love hiking, music, snorkeling/diving, canoeing, and exploring spirituality.
JAZ: Outstanding job Roy and Corrine!…This is just the beginning for you all. I have no doubt that it is only a matter of time before you all hit the road with complete freedom from your busy schedules…. enjoying the life of professional traders! Your hard work is paying off.
