Last night, The Vikings played the Jets on Monday Night Football, and the most memorable part of the game had nothing to do with the score at the end.
You know what the most memorable part was?
It was a short clip where the announcers ran through all of Brett Favre’s NFL records (for all you non-sports fans out there… he is the Quarterback for the Vikings).
They started with Touchdowns. He threw his 500th career touchdown pass last night. The most any quarterback has ever thrown in the NFL. He also holds the record for the most passing yards at over 70,000 yards.
But Brett Favre also holds the record for the most Fumbles and Interceptions of any Quarterback in the NFL to date.
Yep, you read that right. Right up there with all his most illustrious and outstanding accomplishments, are some he rather forget. In fact, he probably has.
Because no matter what you do in life, when you GO FOR IT… when you play to win…
…You are going to set some records… accomplish some things… and understand some momentary failures in a way that the majority of people are petrified of.
The reason Brett Favre has the most fumbles is he has the most heart. He has the most drive. Because he never misses a game. He has started 289 straight games, which is the longest streak by any player, in any position. And every time he suits up and runs out on to that field, he is playing to win.
He doesn’t play it safe. He plays to win. And the two cannot co-exist together.
What’s funny is that Brett Favre will have the last laugh. All his critics that focus on his failures and shortcomings are missing the forest for the trees.
His career speaks for itself. Over 500 touchdowns, A Superbowl ring, and over 70,000 yards. So what if he had the most fumbles?
No one will remember that anyway.
The Marines have a saying that goes, “Fall down seven times, get up eight.”
No one has ever failed at anything until they decide to give up. To stop trying. That they can’t do it.
When you learn a new skill, such as trading, you WILL have setbacks. You will have “fumbles” so to speak. And you WILL give people an opportunity to point their finger and doubt whether or not you can do it.
They do it to Brett Favre. They did it to me when I started trading. And chances are pretty high that you may have your share of doubters too.
But you know how Brett Favre silences his critics? He suits up and gets in the game.
These doubts are just distractions meant to derail you. And every time you hear those nagging voices of doubt in your mind, (or maybe even sitting across a table from you) pull out your trading journal. Review WHY you are learning this. And get back in the game. By doing so, you beat fear and doubt into submission.
Anyone playing to win… not just playing it safe… has my full respect, and I want to hear about it. So leave a comment below and tell me your story.
Until next time,
Jeff
