Learning From the Year

Today I’d like to discuss something I discovered long ago that I do at the end of every year.  This applies to all areas of your life, not just trading, and when I say “long ago”, I’m talking 30+ years I’ve been doing this…

…I know I’m getting up there, and I’m reminded of that fact everyday I get out of bed!

Anyway, the important lesson I realized was this:

I won’t reach my full potential in anything if I readily accept my failures without some serious soul searching.

I’m not one to over analyze things, because stuff happens that is outside of my control.

But those aren’t the things I focus on, as I unpack the year.

The things that really cause my blood pressure to spike are the missed opportunities that I can trace back to my own shortcomings, or worse yet, “The Thief of Time”….

Procrastination!

Both can be dealt with, and even overcame, if I allow the proper time to examine the past year.

I know I know…who has the time to set aside a day or two to really rewind the script and review in detail the past year?

I can’t answer that one for you.

But, what if I told you that you can boost your overall performance by 20% or more for next year simply by setting aside a couple of days to reflect on this past year?

Imagine getting 20% or more of your desired result just by tweaking a few things that you may be already doing.

For a lot of people reading this, maybe more than 20% could be gained by putting an arrow through the heart of the “Thief of Time” once and for all.

I’d even be willing to bet the number would be much higher than 20%.

Right now is the time to get all of this under control.

While events, bad decisions, or momentary failures are still fresh in our minds… Now is the time to re-focus.

I’ll talk more about this in the coming days but before I sign off today, I’d like to point out that you still have 24 days left before the New Year rolls around to get this done.

That way when 2011 arrives, you’ll be in “attack mode” instead of playing catch up like everybody else.

I’d love to hear your thoughts below.

Talk soon,

Jeff

Your absolutely right…I too need to slow down for just a few days and think about the mistakes and lost opportunities of the past…not to sulk but to learn from and move forward. Focus on the right choices and capitalize big time!

Make 10% a month on credit spreads. Take time off every day. Have more fun. Spend more time with God.
